Most cricket fans are in a good mood these days. Despite the setback against Sri Lanka, the men in blue managed to bounce back to beat South Africa and qualifying for the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy. In the middle of the cricket news, my attention was drown to the work being done by Intel on the digital transformation of cricket.
Intel is partnering with the ICC to introduce sensors in the cricket bats. The sensors would calculate aspects like bat angle, velocity and would be a valuable input to the coaching staff.
They are also working with Augmented reality (AR) in fan engagement and fan experience.
Finally they are integrating with drones to analyse the pitch and the outfield to gather more analytics for teams and coaches. I think this is the tip of the iceberg and there is more to come in the future of cricket.
